Caz aka Cazgirl_Plays (Gamer and Blogger)

With the Fortnite Championship winding down, we are pleased to shed the spotlight on one of the fastest growing gamer’s and streamers out there. Caz is a gamer and content creator whose artistic approach to editing, has allowed her to create a large following in the past three years.

Hi Caz, can you please provide a brief introduction of yourself for our readers.

My name is Caz and I’m a gamer and content creator. I have been a gamer all of my life and have been creating videos and streaming for the last 3 years. In 2018 I was given the honor of being made an official Instagram Gaming Ambassador which has been an amazing opportunity to meet and work with other brilliant gamer’s.

What inspires you?

Honestly, I get so much inspiration from other gamer’s. Some of the gamer’s I follow in the community are constantly pushing the boundaries and producing fantastic content weather it be images, videos or streams.

What is a typical day in your life like?

I have a full time job which consumes most of my day, but when I get home I either play games or edit videos or stream. More recently I’ve given myself a break from my creative pursuits and spent a lot of time catching up with games I haven’t played yet! I finished off Horizon Zero Dawn this weekend and have now started on Spyro Reignited! 👍

How has the digital world impacted your life?

My connection to Instagram has helped me forge so many brilliant friendships! It’s also helped me express my creativity. I don’t think I would have started streaming or YouTube if I hadn’t had so much encouragement from Instagram and the amazing community.

What things did you do before you became a gamer?

I can’t really answer that question as I’ve been a gamer since I was 3 years old. My earliest memories are sitting with my Dad playing Tomb Raider 1! We played a lot of games together and he even installed a GameBoy Color emulator onto our old family PC so I could play Pokemon Yellow (Because we couldn’t afford a GameBoy 😂) Later on when I played World of Warcraft, Dad subscribed so that he could play along with me and my brother. I have so many fond memories of gaming with my family.

What are the skills that are most important for someone in this field?

Understanding what an audience wants it so important! Being self-critical and understanding your target audience is something to value most when creating content. I never release a video unless I would personally want to sit down and watch it. If I find a part that is boring or I want to skip, I cut it to keep the video interesting! Record in full, edit ruthlessly.

Outside of work, what are some of the types of hobbies that you like to do?

Apart from gaming, editing and streaming I love running and cooking. When I have some real downtime I love to catch up on my YouTube watch list and do my nails 💅

Do you have any advice for someone interested in this field?

People wait too long to start their passion projects. Who cares if you only have a crappy camera or mic, or don’t feel that you are confident enough yet. Just do it! You can get better equipment later and confidence comes with time. If you have a passion and want to start it, just go ahead and do it now!

what are the challenges you have personally encountered working in this field?

Being a woman in gaming has its own set of challenges. Many people have questioned my skill and even my interest in gaming, saying that “You only do it for male attention.”. For me this is a massive insult as I’ve literally been a gamer for my entire life and it’s a passion that I hold very close to my heart. I try not to listen to those people and not let them get me down, as they don’t know me and are making sweeping judgement purely based on looks.

I want to thank you for taking the time to have the spotlight shined on you, is there anything else that you would like people to know about you?
