EA Access is coming to PlayStation 4
Electronic Arts access (EA Access) is finally being made available on the PlayStation 4! After almost five years since its original debut on the Xbox one. The unlimited game subscription which gives players access to EA’s vault of Games including Star Wars battlefront, UFC, NHL, Need for Speed, and Battlefield game series has an asking price of $4.99 per month of $29.99 per year, with other perks such as a 10% discount on EA games and early trials before games are released.
This is a surprising move for Sony who passed on offering the service back when it was initially released as it “didn’t offer a good value to the PlayStation gamer”. It can only be speculated as to what their specific motive is, however, by enabling PlayStation gamers to have access to EA based games via subscription may bring with it new opportunities for both companies as more and more gamers are switching away from hard disks, and moving toward subscription services.
No specific games have been announced on the service as of yet, however due to the lack of backwards compatibility on the part of PlayStation, this version of the service is likely to have few games than its Xbox one counterpart.
It has also been noted that the service is separate from the Xbox one subscription service. So players who have an Xbox one subscription version, will also have to pay for the new subscription service as well as the features are said to differ. Overall, this is an exciting development for both EA and Sony, and it is going to be interesting to see how players react. As well as how the two companies work together in the coming years.
