PS4 Spider-Man makes you feel like a Web-Slinging Superhero
Web-swinging into living rooms this past fall, we received the newest spider-man game. Being a massive Marvel and comic book fan, this was one of the games that I was most excited about playing all year leading up to its release. With every commercial and leaked piece of information, I became more and more excited. Upon starting the game, I was not disappointed. From we-slinging between buildings, to fighting the bosses, the game mechanics created a fluid enjoyable experience the likes of which have not been seen since Spider-man 2.
As soon as you start the game, you are thrust into the action, as you make your way to Fisk’s office and fight all of the henchman to are located there.
As you progress through the game, you get a deeper and more intimate experience with the characters as you begin to understand the difficulty that Peter Parker was faced as the requirements of being Spider-man took a toll on his everyday life.
My favorite element of the game was seeing the progression not of Spider-man but of Doctor Octopus, as the events throughout the game progression became an origin story for the doctor.
In the climatic moments of the game, the true depth of the characters came forth as we see the pain that peter was going through as he was forced to stop his longtime friend and mentor from destroying the city.
Seeing how the doctor became mad and filled with loss in himself, gives true credit to the actors and game developer who partook in the overall process.
The best seen of the game was the cliffhanger that you could witness, if you stayed to the end of the post credits seen.
The game does have some negative attributes in the form of only being able to explore outside of Manhattan, only being able to go to the RAFT once and not having cameos from other superheroes. But these negatives were outweighed by the games ability to draw you in and keep you interested until the very end.
Spider-man is a fantastic re-introduction for the character onto platform gaming. I for one, cannot wait until the next game to be released, which could potentially have more characters and more story to explore!
